ART DECO WOOD SCULPTURE

£495.00

An evocative wood carving of a young nude, possibly pregnant, girl in the Art Deco style, highly influenced by Hagenauer and some of the more stylised Rosenthal sculptures…..but signed and dated 1965 !
Most likely executed in pearwood it is flat backed and stands approx 73 cms high without the base.
There are some ‘dings’ and movements in the wood as per the photographs, but nonetheless an attractive piece.
The signature reads John H Brookes (?)
At present this is still being researched. The only person with an artistic background we can find at present is the J H Brookes that gave his name to the Oxford Brookes University, but we can not authenticate this work to him at present.
